Dr Belle Ling obtained her Ph.D. in Creative Writing from The University of Queensland and her Master of Creative Writing from The University of Sydney. She is a practising poet, researcher, and artistic director. She was a Co-Winner of the Australian Book Review’s Peter Porter Poetry Prize, a Lucy Morris Stevens Scholar at the Emmanuel College of The University of Queensland, and a Fellowship Awardee of the PLAYA Residency in Oregon. Her debut book of poetry, Nebulous Vertigo, was published in May 2025 by Tupelo Press (US).

Her research focuses on existential philosophy and the poetics of the everyday, with special attention to Hong Kong’s transcultural and multilingual contexts. Prior to joining The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, Dr Ling served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and a Visiting Lecturer at The University of Hong Kong, where she co-designed and delivered courses in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Master of Arts in Creative Communications (MACC) programmes. She has also led and co-directed several high-impact international multimedia projects, including: “The Situation Room,” a collaborative work merging creative writing with choreography, recognized as an International Finalist in the Be Still Media’s Inaugural Competition; “The Power of Intimacy: The Writer’s Guidebook to Hong Kong Neighbourhoods,” a community-focused narrative project reimagining the city’s intimate spaces through local writers’ voices; and “Only Through Time: Minding the Gap,” an international theatrical performance produced in partnership with the HKU’s School of English, the Faith and Global Engagement at HKU, and the Fujimura Institute in New York, presented as part of The Still Point Arts Festival.

Having been a Creative Strategist for Guild HK, Dr Ling produced and curated immersive exhibits at Tai Kwun, reinforcing her commitment to interdisciplinary and place-responsive storytelling. She has also served as Multimedia Producer and Creative Co-Director for drama productions at the HKU Black Box, and was the scriptwriter for Between Us—a groundbreaking play addressing mental health challenges in Hong Kong, produced by The Alternative Cast at the TWGHs TungPo Black Box Theatre. Dr Ling has been invited to deliver readings, conference papers, and creative talks at institutions and cultural venues across the world, including appearances in London, Sydney, Brisbane, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Saratoga Springs, Oregon, Florida, and Hong Kong. She recently completed a seven-city book tour across Australia, featuring events in Sydney, Wollongong, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, and Brisbane.

Her ongoing poetry project, which interrogates themes of hybrid identity and cross-cultural philosophy, has been honoured with the Emerging Artists Development Grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
