Dr CHAN received his PhD in Film Studies from the Department of Cinema and Television, School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University. He also obtained his Master degree in Film Directing and Production in Beijing Film Academy and Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Communication-major in Cinema and Television, Department of Cinema and Television, Hong Kong Baptist University. Dr CHAN had rich professional working experiences in various film production, television stations, newspaper, magazine and government committee. His current research includes Hong Kong Film and Television Studies, Screenwriting and Storytelling, Cinema Therapy and Chinese-language Film History and Industry, Cinema, New Media and Metaverse.

Creative-based Research
  • Director, Scriptwriter of “We are Hong Kongers” for Beautiful Hong Kong campaign (2021-2022).
  • Scriptwriter for “Miracle 13”, this movie is based on the true event of the widely publicizedcave rescue successfully extracted members of a junior football  team trapped in Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand from June to July, 2018. This movie is already produced and planned to screen publicly on 2023 by Media Evangelism Limited.
  • Director and Scriptwriter of “Love in Music”, this film project is invited by Create Hong Kong and Hong Kong Film Development to present in “Guang Dong-HK-Macao-Greater Bay Area Film Production Investment and Trade Fair from 9th, Sep to 11th, Sep, 2019.
  • “The Goddess” (produced, directed and written by Sobel Chan) was recommended by the professional member of Hong Kong Scriptwriters Guild, and registered in Federation of Hong Kong Filmmaker. (Registration number: FS/18/06/R/25). And it was officially selected in Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum 2017 (HAF 2017), organized by Hong Kong Film International Festival and Filmart. And the project is also invited by Create HK and Hong Kong Film Development Council to present in 2017 Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Film Creativity Investment Forum and Trade Fair on 25-26, July, 2017.
  • “Fearless Neighbours” (co-written by Sobel Chan), official invitation for short film catalog of Festival De Cannes 2017.
  • The Armor of Flying Dragon (Directed and Written by Sobel Chan) was selected into the Co-FPC (Co-production Film Pitch and Catch) of the 16th Shanghai International Film Festival, 16-19, June, 2013.
  • League of HK Movie Heroes (Directed and Written by Sobel Chan) was nominated into the Finalists of HAF/Fox Chinese Film Development Award, the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum, 2013.
  • “Winter Cicadas”(Produced by Sobel Chan), was the official selected film in Singapore, Thus have I seen (THIS), International Buddhist Film Festival, 2016. in Marche Du Cinema, Cannes Film Festival, 15th, May, 2015, International Buddhist Film Festival, 2014, and Focus on China: Winter Cicadas in International Buddhist Film Festival in Vancouver, 2013.
