Teaching Enhancement Seminar Series #3: Stress Management Workshop

27 January 2023

The art of teaching excellence needs constant enhancement and empowerment, and so do  teachers.

At the beginning of the new semester, on 27 January 2023, the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Section, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), hosted a Stress Management Workshop, as part of our Teaching Enhancement Seminar Series #3. This workshop was crafted in direct response to the growing needs of our teaching community to foster their well-being and maintain a positive environment inside and outside the classrooms and to ensure that both teachers and their students thrive in an educational environment.

Mr Louis Huang, a registered counselling psychologist, was brought in to help participants  better understand themselves and learn more about the root causes of their existing and potential stress. Experienced in higher education teaching himself, Mr Huang thoroughly understood the ever-increasing tasks piled on our teachers nowadays, ranging from teaching, research and administrative work, to student admissions, professional development and coaching students to join competitions. The seminar resulted in our participants gaining more knowledge of the dynamics and characteristics of stress that university teachers in particular experience. More importantly, Mr Huang gave all participants a sense of security and great comfort by leading simple relaxation and visualisation activities to ease anxiety and empower our participants together as a community and by ensuring that they can practise those exercises by themselves too.
