Seminar on “Engaging Students to Grow and Glow in HSMC”

1 February 2018

With the aim to enable staff members a better understanding of how the rapidly changing trends of local higher education impact student affairs, the Office of Vice-President (Organisational Development), the Centre for Teaching and Learning and the Staff Development Committee jointly organised a seminar entitled “Engaging Students to Grow and Glow in HSMC” on 1 Feb 2018. Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development), and Ms Rebecca Chan, Director of Student Affairs, were invited as the seminar speakers.

In the seminar, Dr Fong and Ms Chan shared with participants the development of higher education in Hong Kong, the findings of students’ needs and employers’ expectations, the challenges of mental health and civic engagement in recent years, and the impacts they have on student affairs. A number of real life cases and dilemmas were cited for group discussion. Dr Fong and Ms Chan gave constructive feedback and exchanged with the participants. The seminar concluded with Dr Fong’s sharing of seven principles of working with students, which can help enable them to “grow and glow” in HSMC.
