STFL Public Lecture – Fitness in Translation (FiT)

26 April 2022

Mr Piers Kuan, Lecturer of the School of Translation and Foreign Languages (STFL), delivered an online public lecture entitled ‘Fitness in Translation (FiT)’ on 26 April 2022.

Drawing inspiration from his successful personal experience of getting fit over the past few months, Mr Kuan said that both learning languages and doing sports need perseverance to make training part of our daily lives, and that we need determination and perseverance to achieve our goals. He shared fitness video clips of the Founder of Fitness in America Mr Jack Lalane, health tips in different languages provided by the Singapore Health Promotion Board, and also various fitness apps. With these tools, we can learn bilingual terms in exercise unconsciously, demonstrating the impact of ‘subconscious learning’.

The participants actively raised questions in the Q&A session. Mr Kuan concluded the lecture by encouraging the participants with the motto “Diligence, Dedication and Determination Work Wonders for Life!”.
