The game localisation industry has been growing worldwide nonstop for the past 25 years and all projections for the future continue to show growth making it the best professional prospect for translation and localisation professionals. There is a new array of tasks requiring new specialisms and calling for new collaborations between Industry and Academia. At the same time, scholarly research on these new industry demands remains scarce and somewhat constrained by traditional approaches and typical linguo-cultural pairs. The emergence and rapid growth of the Chinese game market and developing companies present a golden opportunity for pioneering training in universities and bold creative new localisers. This seminar will introduce the main features of video game localisation, highlighting differences with other translation practices and highlighting new research possibilities and career prospects. Both beginners and experts are welcomed to ask during the Q&A session to make the seminar directly relevant to their present interests.
