A job-hunting event with hundred-plus established companies recruiting on-site

JINESS Careers Fair cum Official Launching Ceremony was held on 9 Mar 2018 (Friday) at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. By utilising innovative technology, JINESS is designed for students of self-financing institutions to accumulate essential occupational skills. The Careers Fair has a total of 107 booths and gathered over 101 organisations from diverse industries recruiting on-site. The event attracted around 2,600 visitors.

Mr Kevin Yeung, JP, the Secretary for Education of the HKSAR, officiated the Launching Ceremony along with Mr Wilfred Wong, Chairman of the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund Steering Committee; Dr Kim Mak, President of Caritas Institute of Higher Education; Prof Chan Wing Wah, Vice-President (Academic) and Director of the School of Management of Centennial College; Prof Chang Chung Nan, President of Chu Hai College of Higher Education; Prof Simon Ho, President of Hang Seng Management College; Prof Lui Yu Hon, President of Tung Wah College; Dr Tom Fong, Chairman of Management Committee of JINESS and Vice-President (Organisational Development) of Hang Seng Management College; and Prof Wong Po Choi, Principal IT Consultant of JINESS and Director of Information Technology of Hang Seng Management College, also presented to witness the inauguration of JINESS.  Mr Yeung also joined dialogue session with five student representatives, moderated by Prof Simon Ho, to strengthen communication and interaction with them.

The Careers Fair gathered over a hundred organisations, including government departments, public services organisations, enterprises in the industry of banking, accounting, finance, aviation, travel, telecommunications, property development and construction, healthcare, media, marketing, logistics, IT, testing, insurance, e-commerce, hotels and more. On-site one to one interviews were offered by some employers. Organisations and employers were invited to take advantage of this opportunity and upload available vacancies on JINESS platform in search of the perfect candidates. More than 550 employers registered and there are more than 1,600 job openings by early March.

Heavyweights Share Their Paths to Success

Three distinguished speakers were invited to chair talks of different topics, including change of career, electronic and digital era and the development of athletes. Details were as follows:

Subject: Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone is a Key to Success
Speaker: Benjamin Au Yeung

The Cantonese expert Benjamin Au Yeung (Ben Sir) has successfully redirected his career from lecturing on a University podium to staring in a TV programme. Benjamin is popular among the youth with his humorous way of explaining development and history of the Cantonese dialect. He has successfully changed the unstimulating image of literature. He shared his experience in combining academics and acting. He also spoke about his attitude to succeed in studying and job seeking.

Subject: How Failure Leads to Success?
Speaker: Vivian Kong, Hong Kong fencer

Vivian Kong is a 23-year-old fencer from Hong Kong. Being ranked within the top ten of the fencing world ranking, she has graduated from the Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree. Internet users have crowned her as the ‘Smiling Princess’ with her beauty. Her talk focused on how she overcame difficulties with her strong and confident attitude, and her way of smiling through failures.

Speaker: Venetia Lee, General Manager, Head of Hong Kong, Taiwan & Macau, Alipay Hong Kong Limited

Alipay is one of the electronic wallet technology available in Mainland China. Having only established in 2004, the cooperation’s development has spread internationally. Venetia Lee, General Manager, Head of Hong Kong, Taiwan & Macau, Alipay Hong Kong Limited, analysed the future trends of digital technology. She also provided in-depth professional opinions on the potentials and opportunities provided by the technology industry.

There was a “CV Clinic” during the day, a free photo taking booth for CV photo shooting, virtual reality games, and some brilliant performances from students of the colleges.
