The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is pleased to organise the 3rd Teaching Excellence Awards Sharing Seminar (2020/21) on 8 April 2021 (Thursday).  Coming to the last session, we are honoured to invite Ms WONG Mei Ki, Maggie and Dr SIU Sai Cheong to share their valuable teaching experience on the theme“Service-Learning for Individuals, Society and Translation”.

Service-Learning for Individuals, Society and Translation

“Bridging Gaps through Service-Learning”
Service-learning is not only learning by serving, but also bridging gaps – gap in understanding the society and gap between social groups in segregation. Sweet and bitter lessons will be shared about the service-learning journeys with her students.

Dr SIU Sai Cheong, Associate Professor, School of Translation and Foreign Languages
“Integration of Service-Learning into Translation Teaching: Where Translation Technology Meets Heritage Revitalisation”
The incorporation of service-learning elements into TRA3105 Computer and Business Translation 1, an introductory module on translation technology, will be discussed. Since 2019/20, the module has been engaging students in translating research articles about the history of Luen Wo Market with the help of state-of-the-art translation systems, as part of a heritage preservation project managed by Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service.
