Lectures on Business and Legal Translation (2)

The second talk of the MA lecture series titled “What You Want to Know in Legal and Financial Translation” held on 13 February 2017. The speaker, Mr Tsang Man Sang, is a former Senior Court Interpreter with the Judiciary of HKSAR.

Mr Tsang compared the legal documents of Hong Kong and Mainland China in terms of terminology and highlighted some points-to-note for translating certain business documents. Mr Tsang also shared his work of translating colloquial phrases and indecent language commonly heard in court cases.

He ended the talk by quoting the following sentence – a definition of a competent interpreter:

Being a competent interpreter,one has to know everything of something and something of everything.
