29 May 2019

The Life Education Forum cum “Shanghai and Hong Kong Higher Education Institutions New Media Creativity Competition for Life Education” Awards Presentation Ceremony, which was co-organised by the School of Communication and Fu Shou Yuan International Group, a company from the life industry, was held on 29 May. More than 80 guests from various capacities attended the event.

The event consisted of a Forum and an Awards Presentation Ceremony. The theme of the Forum was “Promoting Life Education and Recognizing the Significance of Life”, with a line-up of guests from academia, the industry and the social welfare sector. Dr Anselm Lam, Assistant Professor of the Department of Social Science of HSUHK was the host. Guest speakers included Professor Scarlet Tso, Associate Vice-President (Communications and Public Affairs) and Dean of School of Communication; Ms Yi Hua, President of Fu Shou Yuan Life-Service Academy; Ms Alice Leung, Acting Community Services Secretary of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals; Mr Tsang Chin Kwok, Executive Director of the Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong; and Mr Raymond Chiu, Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service. Based on the nature of the services provided by their organisations and their hands-on experience, the speakers explored and discussed life education from the perspectives of education, the value of life and social services, which was thought-provoking.

Following the Forum was the Awards Presentation Ceremony. The Highest Appreciation Award, the Netizen Award, the ten Finalist Awards, the Silver Award and the Gold Award were presented by the guests, with a total of more than HK$80,000 cash prize given out. While there were more than a hundred works submitted to the competition, only 14 were chosen for the awards after a rigorous selection process conducted by the professional judging team, consisting of 4 Hong Kong judges and 3 Shanghai judges, and the general public online. The Silver Award went to Zhang Tianchi, a student from Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance, for his work “The one-time challenge of the perspective on death” while the Gold Award went to Chu Wai Man, Keung Yuen Ting, Loo Yat Chun and Chan Lai Man, students of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, for their work “Today that you have wasted is what those who died yesterday hoped for.”

The “Shanghai and Hong Kong Higher Education Institutions New Media Creativity Competition for Life Education”, co-organised by the School of Communication and Fu Shou Yuan International Group, aimed to reinforce tertiary students’ regard for the importance of life education and to promote understanding of the meaning of life, hence fulfilling the social responsibility of a university and that of the life industry. As seen in the award-winning works of this competition, tertiary students from both Shanghai and Hong Kong manifested surging creativity while successfully promoting the message of life education and spreading positivity in society.
