Mr Boris Lam, Application Development Manager at the Information Technology Services Centre, has been awarded the Greater China Regional Championship in the “10,000 Aldeas” Global Developer Competition, organised by Amazon Web Services (AWS). His innovative AI social training platform, Social Ace, is designed to help young people with autism enhance their social communication skills and better integrate into social life.
Leveraging AWS’s Agentic AI development environment and the AI programming tool Kiro, Social Ace supports real-time voice conversations, analyses speech and social behaviour, and offers assistance through cue cards and vocabulary support. It employs a gamified conversation approach, immersing users in various interactive scenarios. This method gradually familiarises young people with real-life social interactions, helping them improve social communication skills and build confidence.
Mr Lam highlighted that many individuals with autism face challenges in daily communication and require targeted training to improve their skills. Unfortunately, such services are often costly, limited in availability, and burdened with long waiting times. Motivated by this, he developed Social Ace that enables young people with autism to practice everyday conversations anytime and anywhere.
