HSUHK’s “Uniquely Common” Concert Dr Warren Mok takes the stage Captivating over 1,000 audiences

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) held its first large-scale fundraising concert at Hong Kong City Hall’s Concert Hall on 26 October 2023, with the aims to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the acquisition of its University title, and raise funds for its new academic building “Creative Humanities Hub” and long-term strategic development. The “Uniquely Common” Concert attracted over 1,000 guests, alumni, staff members, students and friends of the University, raising over HK$8 million for HSUHK.

Officiated at the Concert’s opening ceremony were Mr Kevin Yeung Yun Hung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Dr Moses Cheng, Council Chairman; Professor Simon S M Ho, President; Dr Patrick Poon and Dr Francis Yuen, Co-Chairmen of the Concert Organising Committee; Mr Thomas Liang, Chief Executive of Wei Lun Foundation Limited, the principal supporter of the Concert; Dr Warren Mok, world-renowned tenor; and Mr Ronald Kwok, Chairman of Opera Hong Kong. 

Dr Moses Cheng said that not only were the performances splendid, but the Concert also brought University members and friends of the University, from different walks of life, together to explore the infinite possibilities of music. He also pledged that HSUHK will continue to become a more prominent and unique University.

The Concert began with a performance from HSUHK Sinfonietta, and was followed by performances from Dr Warren Mok, Dr Moses Cheng, Dr Stephen Suen, Chairman of Marga Group, and Mr Ronald Kwok. Together, the performers created a magical symphony of music, delighting audiences who had an enjoyable night.

President Simon Ho; Dr Patrick Poon; Dr Francis Yuen; Professor Roy Chung, Member of the Concert Organising Committee; Dr Jacky Cheung, Council Member and an alumnus; Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development), student and staff representatives passionately performed a Chinese drum show that brought audiences to their feet as they cheered and applauded the performance.

The Concert also featured Mr Edwin Cheung, Chairman of ITC Properties Group Limited and Dr Alex Chui, Member of the HSUHK Fundraising and Donation Committee; students, alumni, and staff members who presented a series of wonderful performances in various styles, including Chinese and English pops.

Members of “The 4Cs” Dr Moses Cheng; Mr Edward Cheng, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of Wing Tai Properties Limited; and Dr Anthony Chow, Former Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, sang a number of classic hits. Dr Cheng also performed with HSUHK A Cappella Group as an intergenerational collaboration. The Concert concluded with all performers and audiences singing “Below the Lion Rock”.

With the support from alumni and friends from different sectors, the Concert not only showcased the creative and musical talents of University members, but also demonstrated the University’s emphasis on arts and culture.
