HSUHK First Confers Honorary Doctorates on Four Distinguished Persons

23 August 2021

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) held its first Honorary Doctorate Conferment Ceremony on campus today (23 August), conferring honorary doctorates on four outstanding individuals in recognition of their remarkable accomplishments and contributions to the University and society.

The four recipients of the Doctor of Social Science honoris causa are: David HO Tzu-cho, Alice Piera LAM LEE Kiu-yue, Helen LEE YICK Hoi-lun and Rose LEE Wai-mun.

The Ceremony was officiated by Dr Moses CHENG Mo-chi, Chairman of the Council of HSUHK. Addressing the audience at the Ceremony, Simon S. M. HO, President of HSUHK, said, “The four notable recipients have not only earned distinction in their chosen professions, but have also made invaluable contributions to the development of HSUHK.” He further added, “I sincerely hope that the four Honorary Doctorate recipients and other stakeholders of the University will continue to give us advice and support in the years ahead, guiding HSUHK to shine as a leading non-profit private liberal-arts-oriented university in the region, recognised for excellence in teaching, learning and research, serving and advancing our society and the world.”

Dr Alice Lam expressed her gratitude to HSUHK for conferring the honour on behalf of the four Honorary Doctorate recipients, and acclaimed HSUHK as an outstanding young university adhering to the “Liberal + Professional” education model and nurturing students to become all-round and responsible leaders in the future. She said, “Furnished with virtue and professionalism, HSUHK students will not only be ready to give back to society but also vital to its betterment. Such promising graduates are sure to be welcomed by employers with open arms to build a brighter future for Hong Kong.”

When sharing her experience of being a female banker with the audience, Dr Alice Lam said she was fortunate to have benefited from the late Sir Quo Wei Lee’s wisdom when sensing self-doubt in her budding career. The encouragement from Sir Quo Wei Lee gave her a head start in her new pursuit. Moreover, by sharing her personal motto “embrace life with passion”, Dr Lam encouraged all participants that despite the long and winding road ahead, Hong Kong is still a land of opportunity for all.
