HSUHK and Hong Kong International Aviation Academy Signed MOU to Enhance Aviation Related Training and Develop Internship Opportunities to Nurture Talents for Aviation Industry

10 January 2019

The trend of globalisation has triggered the vigorous growth of the aviation industry and thus the surging need for aviation talents. HSUHK and the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (the Academy) of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 10 Jan 2019 on the collaboration aiming at promoting and developing aviation related training initiatives that assist the development of aviation professionals in Hong Kong. Both parties confirm the good faith to co-operate with a view to strengthen the local manpower for the industry.

HSUHK has long been committed to nurture talent for the aviation industry through its Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Supply Chain Management (BBA-SCM Programme). In the past, many graduates joined different positions in the aviation industry to contribute to the industry. President Simon S M Ho believed that the collaboration between HSUHK and the Academy will equip the University’s students with the requisite knowledge through classroom-learning, internship and professional training, preparing them to contribute to the long-term growth of the aviation industry.

Established and managed by the AA in 2016, the Academy is Hong Kong’s first civil aviation academy. It purses partnering with local and overseas education bodies, vocational training institutions, industry practitioners and other organisations. Officiating at the MoU Signing Ceremony, Mrs Vivian Cheung, President of the Academy, assured that the co-operation would help nurture the younger generation who aspires to work in the aviation industry. It would also equip them with professional knowledge and skills as well as practical working experience. The young people will understand more about the promising career prospects in the aviation industry.

The first move of the collaboration will be the sharing of air transport related teaching materials and the development of an interactive aviation learning platform. The aviation professions will also share their experience with BBA-SCM students. The Academy will also help source internship places in the airport community and provide professional training for the BBA-SCM students of HSUHK who are eager to develop their career in the professional area.

Both parties are delighted to enable the BBA-SCM students to become aviation professionals. Sharing the same passion for educating and nurturing young talents, both parties will reach new heights of excellence.

The MOU was signed by Professor Lawrence Leung, Dean of the School of Decision Sciences, HSUHK (front row, right) and Mr Richard Skinner, Dean of the Academy (front row, left), and was witnessed by President Simon Ho of HSUHK (back row, right) and Mrs Vivian Cheung, President of the Academy, (back row, left) ensuring/broadening the joint collaboration in training manpower for the aviation industry.
