DLC Conference: Insights on Deep Learning

9 January 2018

The Deep Learning Research and Applications Centre (DLC) organised a conference titled “Insights on Deep Learning” on 9 Jan 2018 to promote Deep Learning technology and exchange experiences and ideas in the application of Deep Learning in various domains. The conference covered eight research talks by speakers from Imperial College London, Carnegie Mellon University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Academia Sinica (Taiwan), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Macau, and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd; and a dinner talk with a speaker from Microsoft Hong Kong Limited. The conference is a great success attracting over 100 academic and industrial researchers and practitioners from Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Xiamen.

Over the past few years, Google and many major IT companies have invested heavily in Machine Learning technology, particularly Deep Learning using very-large-scale multi-layer neural networks, in order to enhance their services. Deep Learning has demonstrated great success in applications such as object detection, image classification, speech recognition, natural language and text processing, medical diagnosis and drug discovery.
