Invest in Your Future
On 2April 2015, the Department of Economics and Finance was honoured to have invitedMr Peter Yau, Manager of the Investor Education Centre (IEC) to providepractical investment knowledge to students. IEC is a subsidiary of the Securitiesand Futures Commission which aims to raise the level of investment knowledgeand skills of the general public of financial literacy and capability of makingsound investment decisions.
MrYau started the talk by introducing the Hong Kong stock market and varioustypes of stocks, such as Blue Chips and Red Chips. Though some of the conceptsmay be abstract, MrYau explained them in an interactive and interesting way by real-lifeexamples that students had experienced. He also distributed a “Start MoneyManagement Early” booklet for students’ reference. During the question andanswer section, students proactively raised queries about the stock market andsought for tips on how to manage their money wisely. The talk not only enhancedstudents’ investment knowledge but also raised their awareness of risks.
