HSMC Appoints New College Council Chairman and Two New Members of Board of Governors
Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) has appointed Dr ChengMo-chi Moses as the Chairman of the College Council, Mr Liang Cheung-biu Thomasand Dr Poon Sun-cheong Patrick as members of the Board of Governors for a termof three years with effect from 16 November 2015.
On behalf of HSMC, Ms Lee Wai-mun Rose, Chairman of the Boardof Governors, and Professor Ho Shun-man Simon, President of HSMC, extendedtheir warmest welcome to Dr Cheng, Mr Liang and Dr Poon, and expressedgratitude for their devotion and contribution to the future development of theCollege.
“The College trusts that Dr Cheng, Mr Liang and Dr Poon, withtheir expertise, wealth of experience and passion for education, will bringinvaluable insight to the work of the College Council and Board of Governors,which will benefit substantially the College as well as our staff andstudents,” President Ho said.
Dr Cheng Mo-chi Moses, GBS, OBE, JP, currently a member of the HSMC Board ofGovernors, is a practising solicitor and senior partner of P. C. Woo & Co.He was the Chairman of the Education Commission (2009 – 2015) and the Chairmanof the former Board of Education (1996 – 2003). He has served as the Chairmanof both the Council and Court of the Hong Kong Baptist University, and asDeputy Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong Academy for PerformingArts. Since the establishment of HSMC in2010, he has been serving as Governor of the Board, the Chairman of the HumanResources Committee, the Vice-Chairman of the Fundraising and DonationCommittee and Member of the Steering Committee on Campus Expansion. In 2003, Dr Cheng was awarded the Gold BauhiniaStar by the Government of HKSAR in honour of his continuous and significantcontributions to the community.
Mr Liang Cheung-biu Thomas is the Chief Executive of Wei Lun Foundation Limited, anIndependent Non-Executive Director of Miramar Hotel & Investment CompanyLimited and New World Development Company Limited, a Director of the Li Po ChunUnited World College of Hong Kong, a member of the Court of the Hong KongBaptist University, and a member of the Council of The Chinese University ofHong Kong. In the area of communityservices, Mr Liang is the Chairman and Director of the Executive Board of HongKong Heart Foundation Limited, Director of the Institute for Heart HealthPromotion Limited, and Representative of one of the donors (Wei Lun FoundationLimited) of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation. In support of HSMC’s campusdevelopment, Wei Lun Foundation Limited made a donation of HK$80 million to HSMC in 2014.
Dr Poon Sun-cheong Patrick, Chairman of Harvest SCP Group Company Limited, has servedas the CEO and President of ING Insurance’s Greater China Region and as CEO ofthe China Pacific Life Insurance Company. He has won many community accoladesincluding “The Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Youth Award” in 1984, the “OutstandingManager Award (CEO and President Category)” in 1988, the “Best InsuranceLeadership Award” at the Insurance – Belief, Hope & Love Awards, and the“Personality of the Year Award” at the Asia Insurance Industry Awards in 1999.Dr Poon is also a member of the Court and Council of The University of HongKong (HKU) and Deputy Chairman of the HKU Foundation for EducationalDevelopment and Research, a member of the Court of The Hong Kong PolytechnicUniversity and Chairman of the PolyU Foundation. Over the years, Dr Poon has made generousdonations, including those for establishing scholarships and endowedprofessorships, to various higher education institutions.
