HSUHK Proactively Integrates into Development of GBA MoUs Signed with Mainland Universities and Affiliated School of JNU

 

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is proactively integrating its development of Greater Bay Area (GBA) in to its 2023-28 Strategic Plan. Professor Simon S M Ho, President of HSUHK, recently led a delegation to visit GBA cities including Nansha, Guangzhou, Dongguan and Qianhai, Shenzhen. During the trip, HSUHK signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with various universities and Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students, which will promote cooperation and development of HSUHK in the GBA as well as further strengthen regional cooperation among institutions.

The delegation was comprised of 12 professors from HSUHK, including Professor Hui Yer-van, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research); Professor Scarlett Tso, Dean of the School of Communication; Professor Chan Wai-sum, Dean of the School of Decision Sciences, and Professor Gilbert Fong Chee-fun, Dean of the School of Translation and Foreign Languages, among others.

The HSUHK delegation visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), where HSUHK’s School of Translation and Foreign Languages signed an MOU with School of Translation of GDUFS. President Ho then addressed over 80 students from GDUFS as he discussed “The Myth of AI and Humanity Qualities”. President Ho and Professor Shi Youqi, President of GDUFS, hope that collaborations will promote more cooperation between the two universities and inject impetus into higher education in GBA.

Additionally, President Ho and his delegation paid a visit to Guangdong University of Finance and Economics (GDUFE). The two schools shared their latest developments, discussed opportunities for cooperation such as teaching, research and exchanges. They also signed an MoU on an all-round cooperation plan between the School of Decision Sciences of HSUHK and the School of Economics of GDUFE, on actuarial studies and the insurance industry in GBA.

The delegation then visited the Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students, where the two parties exchanged views on cooperation, such as the “Principal Recommended Admission Scheme”. Professor Ho signed an MoU with Mr Lucas Deng, Chairman of Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students, so that qualified secondary 6 students at the Affiliated School of JNU in Guangzhou, Dongguan and Foshan can obtain conditional offers from HSUHK upon the recommendation of their principals.

The delegation also visited “The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong Mainland Centre” in Qianhai, Shenzhen and Nansha, Guangzhou to discuss the future plans for the centres with the venue sponsors and exchanged views with different stakeholders in the area.

President Ho summed up the trip by saying, “HSUHK is actively grasping opportunities and in the GBA. Following the recent establishment of the ‘The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong Mainland Centre’ in Qianhai and Nansha, the signed MoUs will strengthen regional cooperation among institutions and promote the University’s development in the GBA. We hope that the University will make full use of its strengths and combine the advantages of all parties to jointly contribute to the overall development and talent cultivation in the GBA.”
