HSUHK Signs MoU with Jinan University to promote academic exchanges

Professor Song Xianzhong, President of Jinan University, Guangzhou (JNU), led a delegation to The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) for a return visit on 9 November 2023, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Professor Simon S M Ho, President of HSUHK, to promote academic exchanges and cooperations.

Other JNU delegates include Ms Wu Xuanfeng, Director of Jinan University Board of
Directors (HK Office), Ms Wang Yu, Director of the Office of HK, Macao, Taiwan and
Overseas Chinese Affairs, Ms Weng Yongrong, Program Officer of the Office of HK, Macao,Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Affairs, and Mr Sun Haochen, Youth Affairs Manager of Jinan University Board of Directors (Hong Kong Office). HSUHK representatives, Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development), Professor Bradley R. Barnes, Dean of School of Business, Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of School of Communication, Professor Chan Wai-sum, Dean of School of Decision Sciences, Professor Gilbert Fong, Dean of School of Translation and Foreign Languages, Professor Kao Lang, Head of Department of Social Science, and Dr Ken Yau, Head of Global Affairs, received the delegation.

Driven by the shared goal to advance teaching and research collaborations, the MoU
leverages the unique strengths of HSUHK and JNU, and lays the groundwork for a long-
lasting partnership between the two universities through a variety of joint academic
activities and programmes, that will nurture the next generation of talents across different
disciplinary fields.

President Ho said, “We eagerly aspire to unleash the power of synergy with the
competitive edges of JNU and HSUHK. We will embark on collaborative initiatives in
cultivating young talents, and in joint efforts, we take a stride in addressing cross-border
issues, such as the prevention of financial fraud, AI-aided translation, professional English
training for JNU medical graduates to work in Hong Kong, the development of the Greater
Bay Area, and Greater China Studies.”

President Song said, “President Ho and I share a similar background in accountancy. Our
first encounter dates back to over two decades ago. Today, as we represent JNU and
HSUHK respectively, the signing of MoU signifies the deepening of the all-rounded
partnerships between the two universities.”

The signing of this MoU during a return visit by JNU signifies a milestone for furthering the
collaborations, covering academic research and talent development, as well as other joint
initiatives between the two universities.
