HSUHK confers Honorary Doctorates on four distinguished individuals

30 October 2026

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) held its Honorary Doctorates Conferment Ceremony on campus today, bestowing honorary doctorates on four distinguished individuals to recognise their remarkable accomplishments in their professional fields, as well as their contributions to society and the University.

The four recipients are: Mrs Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee (周梁淑怡), a veteran public service leader and pioneer in Hong Kong’s media industry (Doctor of Humanities honoris causa); Dr Lee Ka-kit (李家傑), a distinguished entrepreneur and philanthropist (Doctor of Laws honoris causa); Mrs Patricia Wong Lam Sze-wan (黃林詩韻), an esteemed leader in the international art world (Doctor of Humanities honoris causa); and Professor Richard Wong Yue-chim (王于漸), a renowned economist and higher education leader (Doctor of Laws honoris causa).

The Ceremony was officiated by Ms Luanne Lim, Chairman of the Board of Governors of HSUHK, and Dr the Hon Moses Cheng Mo-chi, Vice Chairman.

In his opening address, Professor Joshua Mok, President of HSUHK, congratulated the four Honorary Doctorate recipients, and praised their commitment to excellence, responsibility and service to society, which aligns closely with HSUHK’s liberal arts and professional education, “Their achievements remind us that education is not simply about acquiring knowledge and professional skills. It is also about developing intellectual curiosity, building the capacity to adapt, and using one’s knowledge and experience for the wider good. I believe the journeys of our four honorary doctorate recipients will inspire us all to embrace lifelong learning, think boldly and serve with purpose.”

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Professor Richard Wong shared how human beings can leverage their irreplaceable advantages in the age of artificial intelligence. He said, “The advantage lies less in what we know than in what we can do with what we know. It rests on tacit skill, bundled responsibility and sound judgement, built over years and anchored in character. The machines have taken what can be told. Go and master what cannot.”
