 Topic: Development of Real-Time Cooperative VR Multi-CAVE Systems for Collaborative and Team Learning

Abstract:

In 2014 and 2020, two QESS projects were approved and funded to The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong:

• 2014 – Open-ended Project Category: “The development of an education and research centre with automatic virtual reality platform for 3D interactive learning and big data analytics” (Funded amount: HK$2,000,000)
• 2020 – Theme-based Project Category: “Development of real-time cooperative VR multi-CAVE systems for collaborative and team learning” (Funded amount: HK$8,770,761)

Dr Eugene Wong, Principal Investigator of the two projects, will share the experience on proposal drafting, panel interviews, project implementation, and report writing of these projects under the QESS scheme. The sharing will go through from conceptual ideas and proposal development to attending interviews and assessment criteria.

Abstracts:
(1) From Impossible to I’m Possible
This project aims to shift student perceptions from “Impossible” to “I’m possible” through collaboration with the Fu Hong Society, focusing on developing social commitment and community engagement. By integrating hands-on workshops led by “Persons in Recovery” (PIRs) and job-hunting tutorials, undergraduate students enhance empathy, ethical communication, and respect for diversity. Participants learn valuable skills in recruitment, selection, and workplace communication, fostering a mindset that embraces individual differences. This initiative aligns with the university’s mission to provide transformative education, preparing students for future interactions with socially marginalized communities.

(2) You Light Up My Life
The project is an innovative and experiential learning initiative aimed at cultivating empathy, ethical communication, innovative problem-solving skills, and social awareness among students. Through collaboration with three NGOs, the project explores homelessness as a pressing social issue using a dual approach: Human Library sessions where students engage in authentic dialogue with individuals experiencing homelessness, and Design Thinking workshops that foster creative human-centric solutions. This experiential learning initiative enhances teamwork skills, preparing students to become empathetic and innovative leaders capable of driving positive community impact.
