Mr Enrique Carlos Cardenas Arestegui, the Consul-General of Peru in Hong Kong, delivered a public lecture entitled “General Vision of Peru” on 24 November 2021. Organised by the School of Translation and Foreign Languages, the lecture was the first in the Consul-General Lecture Series in AY2021/22. It was held face-to-face and broadcast online simultaneously.
Peru has a population of about 32 million and is endowed with rich natural resources. In the talk, Mr Cardenas Arestegui highlighted the population distribution, geographical environment, religion and languages of Peru, as well as the history of immigration of Chinese. Peru assigns great importance to economic ties with different countries. With the establishment of bilateral relations with China, the China-Peru trade pact was strengthened, and volumes grew tremendously.
Among the numerous tourist attractions in Peru, Mr Cardenas Arestegui recommended such places as Cusco, Amazon River and Nazca Lines, and introduced the gastronomy of Peru to the audience. In the Q&A session, he advised that the pleasant weather in May might make it the best time to visit Peru. He also encouraged the audience to join Peruvian cultural events organised in Hong Kong.
