Module Description
This module introduces to students the main themes and characteristics of Western culture, with a focus on the core issues of mythology, philosophy, politics, religion and society. Through the guided reading of selected texts, students are able to develop an understanding of cultural development such as renaissance, reformation, and revolution. This module also reflects on the Western cultural development in the new horizon of a rapidly globalizing world.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. describe characteristics of the Western culture, in terms of religion, philosophy, politics and society;

  2. identify important events in cultural development of the world;

  3. evaluate critically current issues in the Western culture today
