Module Description
This module aims to explore social media communication from journalism, marketing and cultural perspectives, with a focus on establishing social relationships and business opportunities through the application of modern media technologies in daily life. Students examine various smartphone apps, online games and social network sites to gain an expansive view and understanding of essential components constituting the social media network.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. describe the essential concepts of social media and the related social theories;

  2. understand the convergent technologies for navigating through the social and mobile media spaces;

  3. analyse journalism, advertising and marketing practices in contemporary use of social media; and

  4. evaluate social media performance with various analytical tools, such as Google analytics and Facebook insights.
