Module Description
This module aims to equip students with the principles and techniques of translating financial texts, including IPO prospectuses, fund reports, factsheets, listing documents, mission statements, public announcements, marketing copies, as well as retail banking correspondences. Focus will be placed on the practical approaches to and fundamental research skills for, translation for retail and investment banking. Authentic materials and real-life examples will be used. Special attention is given to particular text categories and subject-matter knowledge pertinent to current market developments.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. acquire a sound grasp of key fundamental concepts and terms in the banking industry;


  2. master the translating and copyediting techniques necessary for bilingual financial texts;


  3. use various reference tools and databases;


  4. have an overview of the financial translation and printing industry; and
