Module Description
The aim of this module is to help Year 1 students to acquire a basic understanding of university education, general education and learning, to examine preliminarily the diverse nature and approaches of various academic disciplines and the inter-connectedness thereof, and to burgeon in students an intellectual ability of multi-disciplinary inquiries related to contemporary issues of the 21st century.

The format of this module is a combination of lectures, tutorials and a guided project on a contemporary issue from an multi-disciplinary perspective.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. identify characteristics of university education, general education and learning;

  2. develop an awareness of diversity in intellectual inquiries;

  3. describe preliminarily the intellectual differences of and inter-connectedness between disciplinary fields from their concentration position;

  4. intellectually examine current social, political and cultural issues in Hong Kong and the world through an multi-disciplinary approach;

  5. apply skills in communication, team work and presentation.
