Module Description
This module is designed as a guided study of communication issues in the greater China region, with an emphasis on the media development in greater China, transformation of the Press in Mainland China, and general communication issues in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao. It also examines the interplay of culture, politics and economy that influence how communication in Chinese is performed through various channels.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of Chinese mass communication;

  2. identify communication issues in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau;

  3. critically analyze the interplay of culture, politics, economy and the mass media; and

  4. explain the impact of the new media on communication in China.
