AIN2740 - Computing for Statistical Analysis

Year of Study:2-4
Credit Units: 3
Duration: 45hours
Prerequisites: AMS1301 Foundation of Data Science or AMS1303 Probability and Statistics
or with the Module Coordinator’s permission and upon endorsement of the relevant Head
Module Description
The course will introduce students to the syntax and inner workings of statistical software to become proficient in computational tasks with datasets, skilled in applications of elementary statistical methods, with an emphasis on data exploration and visualization. Focus will be placed on computational aspects of basic statistical inference in order to equip students with necessary programming skills to solve real-life problems.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:                 Weighting
(if applicable)

a. apply fundamental programming tools for statistics;                              20%

b. handle data transformations, dataset manipulation, and exploratory     45%

data analysis; and

c. formulate a real-life problem as a statistical problem                              35%

and solve it using computational tools.
