Module Description
Modern business is obligated to meet increasingly demanding social and environmental standards along their supply chain as defined by wider society. This module presents the fundamental principles of contemporary Sustainable Supply Chain Management within a business context. It provides an understanding of the environmental, social and economic issues in supply chains. It explores the ways in which good practice on these dimensions, underpinned with theoretical relevance, can contribute to optimisation of operational efficiency, organisational excellence, risk mitigation, achieving sustainable competitive advantage and broader ‘triple bottom line’ (TBL) benefits.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. explain and discuss the multidimensional nature of sustainability;

  2. critically explore contemporary challenges related to sustainable supply chain management;

  3. apply methodologies and tools in the design and improvement of sustainable supply chain activities; and

  4. develop strategy to address contemporary issues of sustainable supply chain management.
