The organiser received over 1,000 submissions from 84 colleges and universities from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, with the total number participants reaching a record high of over 3,600. Two groups of students from SCOM won two awards, 2nd runner up in the “Best News Video Reporting” category, and 2nd runner up in the “Best in Short Video Reporting” category.
China Daily (Hong Kong Edition) established the Campus News Awards in 2012. The competition encourages university students to actively engage in campus news reporting and hone their skills in news writing and multimedia production.
The competition was judged by over a hundred senior media professionals, university journalism professors, and experts from relevant government departments. The organiser said that the entries addressed current hot topics, provided in-depth and comprehensive coverage, and demonstrated a level of professionalism, leaving a deep impression on the judges.
Professor Scarlet Tso has served as a judge for the Campus News Awards for many years. During the award ceremony, she pointed out that the level of the entries has been improving, with diverse styles and perspectives seen in the reports. She complimented the event as a highly meaningful one, as it provides an effective platform for promoting the exchange of journalistic knowledge, journalistic skills, and regional cultures.
