Computing Seminar (2016/17): “Who Got the Better Brain?”

17 November 2016

Speaker:  Dr Terrence Mak

Associate Professor

University of Southampton

Dr Mak presented an interesting talk on artificial intelligence. Nowadays, who doesn’t have a computer? Yes, it has become a tool, and perhaps a critical or even survival component, along your daily life. More than that, it provides you countless usages, such as platforms for communication, tools for gaming, control for the vehicles, accessories for banking. This is in fact hinting and directing to a daunting and fearsome future, as the computer is not simply a tool anymore. It begins to evolve. Military networks, Internet, satellite, missiles and spacecraft control or even discover, of which it is taking over and controlled by computer! The most frightening thing is that computer can do a lot of machine learning and quick thoughts that might attacks or even control the human world. It is likely, but unpredictably, to become the enemy of mankind. In the talk, Dr. Mak shared his experience and views on the computer development, as well as the existing computer-human competition in the world.
