International conference examines global energy transition

Co-organised by HSUHK’s Department of Social Science, Centre for Public Policy Research and Centre for Greater China Studies, the conference “Global Energy Transition in the Uncertain Age of Climate Governance: Risks and Resilience” was held at HSUHK from 22–23 September.

Over 100 academics, policymakers, NGO representatives and students discussed the challenges and opportunities of energy transition, geopolitics, sustainability and green finance. Speakers represented leading institutions in Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, the UK and Norway.

Keynote and plenary sessions covered energy geopolitics, marine sustainability, the economic effects of air pollution, and energy cooperation amid geopolitical tensions. Panel discussions examined supply chain resilience, green finance and stranded assets, just transition, and critical minerals.

A practitioner roundtable focused on how Hong Kong can strengthen its role as a regional hub for climate finance and energy transition.
