The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) will confer honorary doctorates on four distinguished individuals to recognise their remarkable accomplishments in their professional fields, as well as their contributions to society and the University. The four recipients are: Mrs Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee (周梁淑怡), a veteran public service leader and pioneer in Hong Kong’s media industry (Doctor of Humanities honoris causa); Dr Lee Ka-kit (李家傑), a distinguished entrepreneur and philanthropist (Doctor of Laws honoris causa); Mrs Patricia Wong Lam Sze-wan (黃林詩韻), an esteemed leader in the international art world (Doctor of Humanities honoris causa); and Professor Richard Wong Yue-chim (王于漸), a renowned economist and higher education leader (Doctor of Laws honoris causa). The Honorary Doctorates Conferment Ceremony will be held on 30 October 2026.
Mrs Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee
Mrs Selina Chow is a veteran public service leader and a trailblazer in Hong Kong’s media industry. For decades, she has been actively engaged in television and broadcasting, public affairs and community work. She has held senior management positions at Television Broadcasts Limited, Commercial Television and Asia Television Limited. Through her creativity and innovative approach, she played a pivotal role in advancing Hong Kong’s television and media industry, while mentoring generations of artistes and media professionals, and making significant contributions to the cultural and creative industries. Mrs Chow was involved in the production of numerous widely acclaimed TV programmes, including Enjoy Yourself Tonight (《歡樂今宵》), Hotel (《狂潮》) and A House Is Not a Home (《家變》). These productions were not only immensely popular but also became part of the collective cultural memory of generations of Hong Kong people, helping to lay the foundation for Hong Kong’s television industry.
In public service, Mrs Chow served as a Member of the Executive Council and served in both the former Legislative Council and the Legislative Council of the HKSAR for a total of 27 years. She also served as an advisor to the Central Government as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference for 12 years until 2017. She held numerous positions on public bodies, including Chairman of the Consumer Council, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Chairman of the Quality Tourism Services Association Committee, and member of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, the Education Commission, the Board of the Airport Authority Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Through these roles, she made significant contributions to Hong Kong’s social and economic development.
Mrs Chow has earned distinction in both the media and public service sectors. Her achievements exemplify outstanding leadership, a strong commitment to social responsibility and a lasting dedication to community service, earning her widespread respect across multiple sectors. She was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government in recognition of her distinguished service.
Dr Lee Ka-kit
Dr Lee Ka-kit is a distinguished Hong Kong entrepreneur and philanthropist. He currently serves as Chairman of Henderson Land Group, as well as Chairman of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited and Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited. In 2014, Dr Lee established his family office, Full Vision Capital, which has incubated a series of innovative green economy projects, dedicated to building a sustainable future.
Dr Lee is deeply devoted to philanthropy and the well-being of underprivileged communities. He founded the Care for Life Foundation and the Centum Charitas Foundation to promote life education and youth development. To support low-income families, the elderly, ethnic minorities, new immigrants to Hong Kong and other communities in need, he established Hong Kong’s first non-profit supermarket chain Home Market through Henderson Warmth Foundation, which provides affordable food and daily necessities, while actively employs new arrivals, low-skilled workers, and unemployed youth, promoting social inclusion and creating employment opportunities.
Committed to advancing education and nurturing talent, Dr Lee has supported the development of higher education in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland through scholarship schemes, scientific research, academic exchanges and campus development. He has also given strong and sustained support to HSUHK’s development. These endeavours demonstrate his dedication to philanthropy, education and social development, as well as his commitment to fulfilling his social responsibilities as a business leader.
Dr Lee is currently a Standing Committee Member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute. He has been awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal and the Gold Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government and has been appointed a Justice of the Peace. He was also conferred an Honorary University Fellowship by The University of Hong Kong and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by Edinburgh Napier University.
In 2026, he published the book 1.23%: 破幻的微光 (A glimmer of light), which explores humanity’s cognitive dilemma in the modern world.
Mrs Patricia Wong Lam Sze-wan
Mrs Patricia Wong is a prominent figure in the global art world. With more than 30 years of experience in the art and auction industries, she has played a pivotal role in advancing the internationalisation of the Asian art market and fostering artistic exchange between East and West. Mrs Wong held senior positions for many years at Sotheby’s, the world-renowned art and luxury auction house, including serving as Head of Private Client Services in London early in her career. In 2004, she was appointed Chairman of Sotheby’s Asia and later took on the additional role of Senior International Chairman of Sotheby’s, and Chairman of Sotheby’s Diamonds. In these roles, she contributed significantly to the development of the Asian art market and jewellery business.
In 2023, Mrs Wong founded the art advisory company Patti Wong & Associates. Leveraging her vast professional expertise, global perspective and extensive network, she continues to connect collectors in Asia with the international art community and contribute to the development of the regional art ecosystem. Widely respected within the industry, Mrs Wong currently serves on the Boards of the Hang Seng Bank Limited, MGM China Holdings Limited and Dickson Concepts (International) Limited, and is a Board Member of M+ Museum.
Beyond her contributions to the art world, Mrs Wong has been a dedicated supporter of higher education and the advancement of arts and culture. She is currently an Adjunct Professor in the HSUHK Department of Art and Design; and she also served as a Governor of HSUHK and as Vice-Chairman of the University’s Fundraising and Donation Committee. Over the years, she and her mother, Dr Alice Lam, have generously supported numerous University initiatives, including the naming of “The HSUHK Foundation Gallery”, the establishment of the “Paul S Lam Memorial Scholarship for Overseas Learning”, and the naming of the “Alice Lam Lecture Theatre”. Their generous and longstanding support has contributed to the University’s development and helped nurture generations of students with a global outlook.
Professor Richard Wong Yue-chim
Professor Richard Wong is a renowned economist and higher education leader. He is Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Chair of Economics and Philip Wong Kennedy Wong Professor in Political Economy at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He has previously served as Director of the School of Business and as the founding Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at HKU, and has made outstanding contributions to HKU’s governance, academic development and strategic planning.
His research encompasses economic policy analysis and regional economic development. He holds the conviction that knowledge should benefit society. Through his academic research and economic policy analysis, he has addressed key issues related to the development of Hong Kong and the broader region, making significant contributions to higher education, public policy and social progress.
He had served on a number of public bodies in Hong Kong, including the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, the Hong Kong Housing Authority, the Industry and Technology Development Council, the University Grants Committee, the Central Policy Unit, the Chief Executive’s Commission on Innovation and Technology, and the Committee on Economic Development and Economic Cooperation with the Mainland under the Commission on Strategic Development in Hong Kong.
He was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 1999 by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in recognition of his contributions to education, housing, and industry and technology development. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2000.
Professor Wong also has a long and close association with HSUHK. He served for nine years as a member of the University’s Board of Governors and for 21 years as a Director of the University’s predecessor, Hang Seng School of Commerce. Throughout his service, he actively supported HSUHK’s development and the nurturing of talent, making valuable contributions to the University’s growth and development.
