Abstract

Highlights from recently preserved Yiddish feature films have been screened and discussed. Produced in Europe and the United States between 1910 and 1948, the films showcase actors including Maurice Schwartz, Molly Picon, Solomon Mikhoels, Herschel Bernardi and Leo Fuchs. Excerpts from Yiddle with His Fiddle, Uncle Moses, Jewish Luck and Tevye have been shown to illustrate the history of this unique chapter of world cinema. All films have English subtitles and the films present the vibrancy and diversity of Jewish cultural heritage.
