Mr. IP Ho Kin is a practising barrister, arbitrator, general mediator and family mediator. He has received bachelor degrees in Marketing, Applied Psychology, and Law respectively. At postgraduate level, he has obtained four master degrees, all with distinctions, in different disciplines, including: Language & Law, Construction Law & Dispute Resolution, Chinese & Comparative law, and Behavioral Health.

Since his graduation from the university, Mr. Ip has acquired more than 20 years commercial experiences in various industries, including: international navigation, international commodity trading, and international investment projects. His last position as an employee was the Corporate Development Director of a Hong Kong Group of companies. Then he changed to work as a self-employed business & dispute resolution consultant.

Mr. Ip has started to practice law since 2010. He maintains a mixed practice of civil and criminal law. His key areas of civil practice include: contract law, tort law, construction law, family law, company law, probate and personal injury. In addition to being a qualified barrister, Mr. Ip has also acquired professional qualifications in Marketing, Logistic & Transport, Arbitration, Psychology, and Family Therapy. Moreover, Mr. Ip is a very active ADR practitioner and frequently receives appointment as an arbitrator, general mediator, or family mediator.

Mr. Ip is enthusiastic in tertiary education. Since 2008, he has received part-time teaching appointments from various local and overseas universities. In addition to being a part-time Lecturer of the School of Translation of the Hang Seng University teaching in the program of MA in Translation (Law & Business), Mr. Ip is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Building & Real Estate of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University teaching in both master and bachelor programs. He is also a part-time Lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong and an offshore part-time Lecturer of the RMIT University teaching in an undergraduate construction program.

Starting Dec 2018, Mr. Ip is appointed by the Development Bureau as a Chairman to the Appeal Tribunals under s45 of the Buildings Ordinance (Cap 123). He also serves as a volunteer lawyer at the Free Legal Advice Scheme of the Home Affairs Department and the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society respectively; and a volunteer family mediator at the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society and Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council respectively.

Among other things, Mr. Ip’s academic interests include legal language, psychology of language, and psychotherapy language. He has taught “The Use of Chinese in Law” to LLB students at the University of Kong Kong, “Chinese for Legal Practice” to PCLL students and “Special Topics in Language & Law” to MA in Language Studies students at the City University of Hong Kong. He is also a contributing author of the book “Essential Construction Law” published by the Hong Kong University Press.
