The School of Decision Sciences (SDSC) held its 10th Anniversary Celebration Dinner cum Decision Analytics Outstanding Award Presentation Ceremony on 6 June 2025. The event celebrated the achievements of the School over the past decade and recognised the contributions of colleagues, alumni, and partners who have supported the School’s development.

Coinciding with the University’s 45th anniversary, SDSC has been dedicated to promoting education and research in the fields of data science, computer science, insurance and risk analysis, supply chain, and information management since its establishment in 2014, as well as continuously enhancing teaching quality and providing practical training to students in order to cultivate tech talent.

In his speech, Dr the Hon Moses Cheng, Chairman of the Council remarked “Over the past 45 years, we have gradually developed from a college into a vibrant private university, becoming an important part of higher education in Hong Kong. SDSC will continue to innovate and break new ground, leading the development of decision sciences and inspiring the next generation of future leaders.”

In his opening remarks, Professor Chan Wai-sum, Dean of SDSC, noted “SDSC has been actively promoting data-driven decision-making applications and business model innovation, emphasising that teaching and research must be grounded in real life and closely collaborate with industry partners. By promoting deep integration of industry, academia, and research, we are committed to enhancing the scientific nature of strategic decision-making and operational management, focusing on high-quality and impactful applied research to assist industry progress and social development.”

SDSC also arranged demonstrations of several research projects during the dinner, showcasing their advancements in optimisation technology analysis and machine learning, as well as in daily applications. Projects included VR and Meta Technologies Platform applications, AI drone-based intelligent exhibition booth inspection system “ExpoDrone”, and Smart Journey with Robotic Doggie.

The Decision Analytics Outstanding Award 2025 was also held during the event. This year, a total of seven organisations were awarded for their significant role in driving innovation, improving business efficiency, demonstrating the critical impact of decision analytics in modern business and excelling in the application of decision analytics technologies.
