9 October 2024
Extending care and support to non-local students residing in off-campus residence, Professor Simon Ho, President of HSUHK, visited them on 9 October 2024 to gain first-hand insights regarding their experiences there.
Wang Yixiao (BBA-Financial Analysis and FinTech, Year 1), shared the challenges and joys of being new to Hong Kong with President Ho. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from the living experience at the off-campus residence, the new learning environment at the University, internship and exchange opportunities, and ways to interact more with senior-year students for advice. President Ho also met and chatted with two student residents there.
Given the expansion of HSUHK’s non-local student population in the 2024-25 academic year, 70 non-local first-year undergraduate students were assigned accommodations in the privately-owned and fully equipped off-campus university student residence as a transitional arrangement. The student residence is located in San Po Kong, East Kowloon, where residents can reach the campus conveniently with a 15-minute direct bus ride.
The Student Affairs Office has recruited senior-year students as mentors to support the residents by organising activities such as orientation day, cultural activities and a dessert party, as well as addressing their needs.
