The Student Affairs Office of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) recently organised the “Guide Dog Seminar: Paws and Perspective”, inviting representatives from The Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association to introduce the duties and training of guide dogs, as well as their role in supporting visually impaired individuals. The seminar aimed to promote a culture of diversity and inclusion on campus.
The seminar focused on the training philosophy and daily operations of guide dogs, helping participants gain insight into the rigorous training these dogs undergo to assist visually impaired people in navigating safely and enhancing their independence. The event also featured a sharing session by a visually impaired individual accompanied by his guide dog. Through personal stories about daily interactions, challenges in everyday life, and the deep trust and rapport established between the pair, participants gained a deeper understanding of the guide dog’s dual role as both a “working partner” and a “life companion.”
