The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) announced today (5 March) the appointment of Professor Joshua Mok Ka-ho (莫家豪) as its next President, effective 1 September 2026, for a five-year term.
The appointment was approved by the Board of Governors and the Council, following the recommendation of the Search Committee after a rigorous recruitment process.
Professor Joshua Mok currently serves as Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) at HSUHK. Before joining HSUHK in June 2024, he held senior leadership roles as Vice-President at Lingnan University and Vice-President (Research and Development) at The Education University of Hong Kong.
A highly respected scholar and educator in higher education policy, comparative social policy and institutional development, Professor Mok has been recognised among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University and acknowledged as a top leader in Social Sciences and Humanities by Research.com. Most recently, he is named as a top scholar by ScholarGPS in 2026, being ranked 1st in Asian Studies and 7th in Higher Education Research over the past five years.

Professor Joshua Mok is honoured to accept the new role. He said: “HSUHK stands as a leader in liberal arts education, dedicated to cultivating innovative and compassionate leaders for both our society and the global community. I am thrilled to assume the presidency and collaborate closely with members of the Board of Governors and the Council, students, faculty, alumni, and partners to strengthen the University’s academic and educational foundations, broaden its tradition of excellence, and make a meaningful impact through the creation of new knowledge and research.”
The University launched a global search for its next President in June 2025. After a rigorous evaluation and interview process, the Search Committee recommended Professor Joshua Mok as the most suitable candidate. An open sharing session was held for Professor Mok to meet staff, students, and alumni.
HSUHK also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Professor Simon S M Ho, the incumbent President, for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service. Under his visionary guidance, Hang Seng Management College attained university status and became The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, marking a historic milestone in the institution’s development.
