HSUHK-Manchester Roundtable explores Asia as an education hub

5 March 2026

The Graduate School of HSUHK, in partnership with the University of Manchester and supported by the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership, hosted the international roundtable “The Quest for Education Hub in Asia—Comparative Perspectives and Policy Learning” on 5 March 2026.

Professor Joshua Mok, Provost and Vice President (Academic and Research) of HSUHK, opened the event, emphasising higher education’s strategic role in enhancing Asia’s economic competitiveness and global engagement, with international collaboration as a key driver of policy learning, research excellence, and talent development.

Scholars explored impact-driven research, international education as cultural diplomacy, digital technologies, generative AI, liberal arts education, and equitable future-oriented systems.

In the policy-focused session moderated by HSUHK’s Dr Chan Chi-kit, Associate Professor from the School of Communication, Professor Mok, Dr Ayomide Oladosu and Dr Rainie Ke from the School of Transdisciplinary Studies, presented early findings from their ongoing Public Policy Research Funding Scheme project comparing doctoral talent attraction and retention strategies across Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and the UK. Dr Zia Ullah Akhunzada from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, added valuable regional insights on internationalisation and student mobility.

The roundtable concluded with actionable policy recommendations and strong enthusiasm for future collaborations in doctoral education, international education policy, AI governance in higher education, and comparative education hub studies—strengthening cross-regional networks and Asia’s position in global higher education.
