3 December 2025
The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) held its Graduation Ceremony on 3 and 4 December 2025, conferring bachelor’s and master’s degrees on more than 2,000 graduates. Dr the Hon Moses Cheng, Chairman of the Council, and Mr James Tsien, Vice-Chairman of the Council, each presided over one of the ceremony sessions and witnessed this significant milestone in the graduates’ lives. The ceremony began with a solemn moment of silence in remembrance of the victims of the Tai Po inferno.
In his speech, Professor Simon S M Ho, President of HSUHK, expressed profound sorrow on behalf of the University for the lives lost in the tragic fires at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. He extended the University’s deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the injured, and all affected residents. President Ho also paid the highest tribute to the disciplined services, medical personnel and members of the public for their selfless and ongoing contributions to the rescue and relief efforts.
Addressing the graduating class, President Ho encouraged the graduates to lead lives rooted in meaning, values and fulfilment. He reminded them that challenges often foster resilience and personal growth, and urged them to face the future with optimism and determination.
Dr Moses Cheng and Mr James Tsien also shared words of encouragement, urging graduates to embrace lifelong learning, remain curious, and continually challenge themselves to achieve more. They advised the graduates to remain confident, resilient and true to their principles in both good times and difficult moments.
