On 2 December 2024, the School of Humanities and Social Science received Dr Stan Lai, a world renowned theatre director, to deliver a lecture titled “Making Theatre in the Chinese-Speaking World 1984-2024”.
Dr Lai provided an overview of the development of contemporary Chinese theatre over the last four decades. He also shared his bicultural upbringing experience, having moved from Washington to Taiwan. Dr Lai recalled the culture shock he experienced, and how his life inspired his theatrical approach. The event was attended by about 120 people, including staff members, students, and external audiences.
