Two student teams from the Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours) programme from the School of Communication received accolades in the Tertiary Student Journalism Award Category of the Consumer Rights Reporting Awards, organised by the Consumer Council.
The Silver Award was conferred for the investigative report titled “Cross-Border Fresh Meat Risks”, which exposed legal and food safety risks tied to the rising trend of cross-border fresh meat purchases as seen on social media. The winning team includes Cai Changyi; Chong Hiu-ching; Lam Kwun-yat; Lau Wan-yeuk; and Luo Yanshan.
The Merit Award recognised the report “Unlicensed BBQ Venues”, which uncovered unlicensed private barbecue sites across the New Territories, posing severe food safety and fire risks. The award recipients are Chan Hau-pong; Cheung Chun-hei; Chow Chin-hoi; Hui Siu-fung; and So Wing-lam.
