Module Description
This module is designed to introduce students to the area of real estate investments with the application of financial concepts. Debt and equity financing for residential and commercial real estate properties are examined. In addition, lenders and investors’ perspectives on risk and reward across different property types are discussed.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- apply the basic principles, concepts, and problems that arise in real estate investment analysis;
- apply financial mathematics to evaluate payment streams, mortgage yields, outstanding loan balances, equity returns and other basic financial measurements;
- examine the interest risk in real estate investment; and
- analyse and explain the various types of loan instruments and ownership vehicles such as joint ventures and syndications.
