The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) held its New Student Welcome Day today (24 August), welcoming over 2,500 incoming first-year and senior-year students. Themed “承恒 — Belong and Beyond,” the event highlighted the importance of mutual support, close connections, and the University’s shared spirit. Bringing together students and members of the University community, the event foster a strong sense of belonging within HSUHK. It also encouraged new students to embrace challenges with courage, push beyond their boundaries, and embark on an enriching and fulfilling university journey.
In her welcome message on the orientation website, Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience) of HSUHK, welcomed the new students to the HSUHK family and introduced the University’s unique “Liberal + Professional” education model. Professor Fu emphasised HSUHK’s commitment to both academic excellence and whole-person development. Through its residential college system that integrates living and learning, interactive small-class teaching, close student-teacher relationships, leadership development, and a diverse range of experiential learning opportunities, the University seeks to foster students’ intellectual, personal, and social growth. She added, “University life is about much more than earning a degree. It is a unique opportunity to explore new ideas, broaden your horizons, engage with people from diverse backgrounds, and realise your full potential. I encourage you to approach these experiences with curiosity, confidence, and an open mind. Take advantage of the many opportunities available to you, challenge yourself to step beyond your comfort zone, and make full use of the support and resources around you.”
The New Student Welcome Day featured a variety of informational and experiential booths, where University departments, student groups, and organisations introduced new students to the campus environment, learning support services, student services, and recreational facilities. The University also organised a range of activities, including a campus orientation programme and a sports carnival, to help new students familiarise themselves with the campus, make new friends, deepen their understanding of university life, and prepare for the exciting new chapter ahead.
