Teaching Excellence Awards recipient shares teaching journey

9 April 2026

On 9 April 2026, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) hosted the second HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards (2024-25) Sharing Seminar. Award recipient Dr Andy Cheng, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance, spoke on “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn: A Reflection on Teaching and Transformation”.

Dr Andy Cheng shared how he adopted the “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn” approach and turned classrooms, projects, and competitions into “live laboratories” as a scholar-practitioner, bridging theory and industry practice. He also highlighted how coaching the Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) teams built confidence and resilience, creating a powerful “ripple effect” beyond the classroom. Two CUPP student participants reflected on how his mentorship and real‑world challenges enhanced their skills and confidence.
