HSUHK achieves a remarkable 20% increase in research funding, securing HK$12.67 million for 19 projects in the 2025-26 Research Grants Council Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector. This significant growth, up from HK$10.38 million in 2024-25, underscores HSUHK’s rising prominence in the respective academic landscape.
HSUHK’s success spans 15 projects under the Faculty Development Scheme (FDS) and four projects under the Inter-Institutional Development Scheme (IIDS). With an overall success rate of 34.6%, HSUHK surpasses the sector average of 29.1%, solidifying its position as the most competitive institution among the four self-financed universities. Notably, HSUHK achieves an outstanding 66.7% success rate in the IIDS, the highest among all self-financed universities, along with securing the largest funding share in this category.
HSUHK continues to excel across multiple disciplines, leading in the Business Studies Panel with the highest number of funded projects and a 32.7% funding share. HSUHK also demonstrates strong performance in the Engineering Panel and Physical Sciences Panel, achieving success rates of 45.5% and 66.7%, respectively, reflecting the diversity and quality of its research efforts. Within HSUHK, the School of Decision Sciences remains standout, securing eight FDS projects and one IIDS project, accounting for more than half of the university’s total funded projects.
“HSUHK’s sustained progress in securing competitive research funding reflects our commitment to fostering innovative and impactful research across disciplines,” said Professor Joshua Mok, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Development). “As a young self-financed university, we are proud to witness our efforts and achievements, which will keep our University working towards advancing both education and research, and contributing to the society at large.”
