Freshmen urged to fully explore their potential at HSUHK New Students Welcome Day

22 August 2025

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) held its New Student Welcome Day today (22 August) and welcomed over 2,200 incoming first and senior-year students. Themed “New Game+: Awaken Your Uni Power”, the event encouraged freshmen to unlock their potential by seizing opportunities for growth and exploration as they face challenges head-on, and enjoy university life.

In her welcome address, Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience), expressed her hope that freshmen’s University journey will awaken their independence, passionate, and courage. She emphasised that students should use their courage as a compass for growth, harness resilience to overcome obstacles and challenges, fully engage with university life, and become empathetic leaders who contribute to their communities.

Professor Simon Ho, President of HSUHK, penned a note to students on the orientation website and encouraged them to seize every opportunity for learning, service, and personal development, and to engage actively in their studies and community. He emphasised that University education is not just about acquiring professional knowledge and skills for their first job; but it prepares students to embrace challenges and opportunities with confidence and resilience, enabling them to become responsible global citizens with a strong sense of purpose and fulfilment.

Dr Cheung Pui-sze, Director of Student Affairs, also left a message on the website to remind students to not only achieve academic success, but also focus on gaining wisdom and compassion, so that they can become well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive impact on the world.

During the New Student Welcome Day, various departments and student organisations set up booths and held activities such as campus hunts and sports carnivals to introduce new students to the University’s learning environment, support services, and recreational facilities. This initiative helped them gain a deeper understanding of campus life as they embark on a new learning journey.

Meanwhile, President Simon Ho, along with the Vice-Presidents and Deans of Schools, shared their warm welcome and words of encouragement for the freshmen through a video in English, Cantonese and Putonghua. Click here to watch the video.
