The Graduate School and Globalisation, Internationalisation, Localisation and Translation Research Centre of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) and the University of Manchester in the UK hosted an International Roundtable cum Research Workshop yesterday (20 November) at HSUHK. Topics such as the impact of internationalisation and transnational education on student learning, teaching, and administrative management were discussed at the Roundtable. Scholars, practitioners, and emerging researchers gathered at the Roundtable, engaging both online and in-person, to explore the evolving landscape of global education, sharing insights and best practices.
In promoting Hong Kong as an international education hub in Asia, scholars emphasised the important role that university authorities play in supporting overseas and non-local students, especially as these students face various adaptation challenges while studying in Hong Kong. To successfully promote the “Study in Hong Kong” brand, it is crucial to create a friendly and harmonious learning environment so that overseas students can feel a sense of pride for choosing Hong Kong as their destination for higher education. Additionally, universities should strengthen collaboration with local and international institutions to create cross-disciplinary and diverse learning experiences.
Speakers at the Roundtable also discussed the impact of AI technology on international education, highlighting the need to leverage innovative technologies to transform teaching. However, they stressed that the primary focus should remain on enhancing student learning experiences rather than allowing technology to replace their collective learning.
HSUHK and the University of Manchester will continue to strengthen inter-institutional collaborations and will host more research activities in the future. The Roundtable was supported by the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership.
