Venerable Professor K L Dhammajoti

Venerable Professor K L Dhammajoti is an internationally renowned Buddhist scholar. He commenced his university teaching career in 1982 at the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka spanning 22 years. In 2004, he moved on to the Centre of Buddhist Studies, The University of Hong Kong, where he served as the Glorious Sun (endowed) Professor of Buddhist Studies. After retiring from The University of Hong Kong in 2015, he took up the Chair Professorship at the School of Philosophy, Renmin University of China. Currently he is the Chairman of The Buddha- Dharma Centre and the abbot of the Aloka Vihara, Hong Kong; Director, Vidyācaraṇa Buddhis Resource, Malyasia; Professor Emeritus of the University of Kelaniya; Rector Emeritus of the International College of Buddhist Studies, Thailand; and Editor of the Journal of Buddhist Studies of the Centre for Buddhist Studies, Sri Lanka.

Venerable Professor K L Dhammajoti is dedicated to the promotion and integration of intellectual studies, and the unification of the different Buddhist traditions. He is proficient in the Buddhist canonical languages, and well versed in the doctrines of both the Southern and Northern Buddhist traditions. His research in Sarvastivada Abhidharma is internationally recognised as a leading contribution to Buddhist studies. His published works include: Sarvastivada Abhidharma, Abhidharma Doctrines and Controversy on Perception, Entrance into the Abhidharma, The Chinese Version of Dhammapada, Reading Buddhist Sanskrit Texts, Reading Buddhist Pāli Texts, as well as a large number of research papers.
